So I was thinking about this and is Azuma like, not straight? He's single and in his late 40s, Azumanga is one of the first manga with a canon non-sexualized lesbian, his way of depicting the characters in general I feel has a sense of disinterest from him in terms of making them attractive to a male reader (although very likable they're not very waifu-y), and in general I just get this sense that he's not particularly interested in women? Idk, actively saying you're gay isn't really something you can do in Japan but he could also be asexual. Of course the super obvious counterpoint is the fact he made hentai for a while but to my understanding, a lot of mangakas start out with that less out of wanting to draw porn and more because it's a very accessible way to enter the industry. Idk, is there anything of him having a girlfriend at some point on his twitter or something? I just get this vibe he's not really into women.

I have been thinking about Japan's weirdness in general and i have come to the conclusion Japan was a test run laboratory on how to neuter men and drive the general population insane. Now the test is done and the results can be implemented throughout the world. People in heir 20 and 30 are totally infantile and have never grown up. The powers behind the scenes figured making people idiots will render them harmless and easy to rule over. Azuma is a perfect example of a modern neutered male.
Steve Hawkins is an optimist, humanity won't survive 2 more generations.

It is interesting that you use the colloquialism "waifu" in this way, as it originated in Azumanga Daioh.

As far as dating anyone, it seemed like there was something going on between him and Masumi Asano for a while, although that could have been platonic. But they were tweeting back and forth quite a bit, and she made mention of him taking her out to expensive restaurants.

As far as being interested in women, his female character designs always seemed to be a bit cheesecakey. I remember he put up a sketch page one time that had the note, "I like cars and boobs."

100% chance of being straight. Japan post-WWII has had genetic and social engineering applied to it such that it is purposely falling below replacement level. Grossly unhealthy societal behaviors and norms have been promoted to keep men and women from procreating.

yeah, but "waifu" is just a term that was taken from azu, even if azuma made it up, idk it's a vague concept but i just get this sense that he doesn't really see any of his characters" in that way". but yeah, what ralen wrote means he's probably just an introvert lol
